Barksdale Advocacy aims to serve students with and without disabilities by providing services tailored to their unique needs. We work collaboratively with families and school teams to repair relationships, empower parents and students, and ensure compliance with IDEA.
Erica has been dedicated to helping students and families for years. She received her Bachelor's and Master's Degree from Radford University in Radford, VA. She graduated her Master's program in special education with a 4.0 GPA and was bestowed an award as Outstanding Graduate Student in the school of Teacher Education and Leadership. She was also inducted into the National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. In 2019, she earned her certification as a Certified Autism Specialist (CAS) through the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards. Erica has a license to teach in the states of VA and NC.
Erica is currently employed as a special education teacher at Stuart Elementary in Patrick County, VA. During her time as a special education teacher, she has worked with students to ensure they are included and challenged in the general education setting, supported families, and provided behavioral and academic intervention. She strives to ensure all students receive proper support, yet, are adequately challenged in every aspect of their education. Her aim is to ensure students build confidence, build self-awareness, and build independence through knowledge.
